Motorized shades are window treatments driven by quiet motors, so they can raise and lower at a touch, by voice, or on a schedule. They are used for privacy, to cut glare on screens, and to block a share of the ultraviolet light that fades furniture, floors and art.
Choosing a fabric
Shade fabrics are often rated by openness: the share of the weave that lets light and view through. A lower openness blocks more light, glare and UV but shows less of the view. Blackout fabrics block nearly all light and suit theaters and bedrooms.
Daylight scheduling
With scheduling, shades on sun-facing windows can lower during the brightest part of the day and open again in the evening. Comfort stays even and furnishings get less sun, with nobody at the controls.
Shades as part of scenes
Because the shades are on the same system as the lights, a Movie scene can close them and a Morning scene can open them.
