A multi-zone system gives different parts of a home or building their own thermostat, so each area can hold its own temperature. Smart thermostats add schedules and remote mobile temperature access.
How zoning works
Zoning is done either with dampers in the ductwork that a zone panel opens and closes, or with separate heating and cooling units serving each area. Either way, each zone gets its own thermostat.
Where the savings come from
Heating and cooling empty rooms is wasted energy. The U.S. Department of Energy says you can save as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling by turning your thermostat back 7 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 hours a day from its normal setting. A thermostat schedule can make that setback for you.
Remote access
With remote mobile temperature access, you can check the temperature from your phone.
